Weekend Recap – Power sweeps Woodsmen

With crucial points on the line heading into the final games of the season, the Power was able to get back in the win column, sweeping the visiting Wisconsin Woodsmen in convincing fashion.  Both Friday’s Billet Appreciation Night and Saturday’s Fan Appreciation Night sent the fans at Kettle Moraine Ice Center home happy with 8-3 Power victories.

Friday there were 13 Power players who tallied points in the victory.  The Woodsmen started the game’s scoring at 16:53 of the first.  The Power answered twice in the first period, Mike Sobaski scored his 13th goal of the season at 15:34, assisted by Odin Klebba (15) and Monte Goold (10) and Jackson Hoem scored his 25th goal at 8:52 off assists from Andrew Browe and Brody Josselyn.  There was no scoring in the second period by either team, and then the flood gates opened in the third period, with the Power scoring 6 times. The Woodsmen started the scoring at 19:44 and then the Power stepped on the gas.  Michael Maillette scored his 6th goal of the season at 18:19 off an Evan Eisch assist and his 7th of the season at 13:54, assisted by Trace Shumlas (9) and Evan Eisch (5).  Jackson Hoem (26) scored off assists from Kelly Coldwater (13) and Andrew Browe (45) at 8:10, Odin Klebba added the Power’s sixth goal of the night off assist from Quiinn O’Connor (15) and Evan Eisch (6).  Brody Josseyln scored his 7th of the season at 5:29 off assists from Hoem and Goold.  Lucca Weinkauf scored his 10th of the season at 4:52 off assists from Danny Jurcich and Kelly Coldwater.  Tomah was able to tally another goal with 4 minutes remaining but couldn’t answer again as the Power came away with the 8-3 win. Adam Prokop earned the victory in the Power net, stopping 22/25 Woodsmen shots on goal.  The Power had 44 shots on goal.  

Saturday’s match in front of a capacity crowd at Kettle Moraine Ice Center, had the same finish with a dominating 8-3 Power victory. The Woodsmen got on the board first at 5:07 of the first, and the Power answered with a Jackson Hoem (28) goal off assists from Mike Sobaski (15) and Drew Sparacino (14) for a 1-1 tie at the end of one period.  Brayden Graning started the second period scoring with his 8th goal of the season at 14:26. He was assisted by Danny Jurcich (10) and Lucca Weinkauf (17).  Tomah answered with a 4 x 4 goal at 12:26 to tie things up at 2.  The Power answered again, three more times in the period for the 5-2 lead after two periods of play.  Weinkauf scored unassisted at 9:27 and Mike Sobaski scored twice in a span of less than a minute. Sobaski was assisted by Andrew Browe (47) and Odin Klebba (16) on this 14th goal of the season and Klebba (17) and Quinn O’Connor (16) on his 15th of the season.  Michael Maillette scored his third of goal the weekend at 13:54 of the third period off assist from Jozef Silhar (3) and Brody Josselyn (17).  Danny Jurcich scored his 7th goal of the season off assists from Weinkauf (18) and Josseyln (18).  Andrew Browe found the back of the net for the Power’s 8th goal in consecutive nights, his first goal as a Power at 8:50.  Browe was assisted by Hoem (22) and Teagan Scheurer (25).  Tomah again added a third goal late in the period but failed to get any closer than the 8-3 final. Adam Prokop earned his second win of the weekend in the Power net, stopping 21/24 Woodsmen shots on goal.  The Power had 48 shots on goal.

The Culligan Water of West Bend Players of the weekend are Mike Sobaski and Jackson Hoem.

The Power sits in first place at 31-8-2-2 in 43 games played with 66 points and have a game in hand against the second place Wausau Cyclones (65 points) and third place Rochester Grizzlies (61 points).  The Woodsmen clinched the fourth Central Division playoff spot thanks to a St. Louis loss to Rochester on Saturday.  The Power will look to lock in playoff home ice advantage in the final four games of the season.

UP NEXT 

The Power will be on the road for the final four regular season games.  This weekend they travel to Peoria to take on the Mustangs in a Friday – Saturday match up. Friday, February 28 game time is at 7:00 at the Owens Ice Center and the Saturday, March 1 puck drop is 6:00pm.  The Power will be on the road to Tomah March 7 and to Wausau March 8 to round out the regular season.  All games will be broadcast on NA TV.
