Weekend Recap – Power sweeps Wausau

The Power and the Cyclones faced off for the final time this regular season in a home and home series and the Power came away with two wins, remaining a perfect 8-0 against the Cyclones this season.  The Power now sits at 38-3-1-1 with 78 points in first place in the Central Division.  Wausau falls to 24-18-1-0 with 49 points in third place in the Central Division.

Friday

The home team Cyclones got on the board first at Marathon Park at 18:47 of the first period when Elijah Von Guten scored his first of three goals on the night for a 1-0 Wausau lead after the first period of play.  The second period saw five goals, three from the Power and two from Wausau.  Blake Kohnen (11) scored a power play goal at 14:20 off assists from Danny Jurcich (32) and Quinn O’Connor (28) to tie the game.  Van Guten answered with a Wausau goal at 11:55.  Danny Jurcich (20) scored unassisted at 10:51 and Jackson Hoem (9) scored at 4:11 off assists from Jurcich (33) and Tristan Hearly (8).  Van Guten completed his hat trick with 54 seconds remaining in the second period for a 3-3 tie heading to the third period.

The Power took command in the third period, finding the back of the net four times.  Elias Holan (13) scored at 16:39 off assists from Hearly (9) and Hunter O’Neal (8).  Danny Jurcich (21) scored his second off the night off a Blake Kohnen (29) assist.  Quinn O’Connor scored his 17th goal of the season at 10:18 off assists from Holan (7) and Armani Fisher (11).  And Danny Jurcich completed his hat trick at 7:59, scoring is 22nd goal of the season off assist from Jackson Hoem (22) and Jace Fitzgerald (28) for the 7-3 final.

Sam Ahl earned the victory in the Power net, stopping 34/37 shots on goal.  The Power had 38 shots on goal.

Saturdaywe

The Power returned to home ice Saturday and came away with a 4-0 victory for the weekend and season series sweep. 

There was no scoring in the first period.  The Power scored twice in the second period and twice in the third period.  Michael Maillette (18) scored off assists from Mason Wanka (23) and Nathan Antti (12) and Jace Fitzgerald (24) scored a power play goal off assists from Danny Jurcich (34) and Blake Kohnen (30) for a 2-0 lead after two periods of play.  Blake Kohnen (12) scored a power play goal off assists from Drew Sparacino (32) and Quinn O’Connor (29) and Jackson Hoem (10) scored the final goal, another power play goal. off assists from Shaun Paulson (16) and Nolan Mix (20) in the third period for the 4-0 final.    Sam Ahl earned the shutout victory in the Power net, stopping all 21 Wausau shots on goal.  The Power had 45 shots on goal.

The Palermo’s Screamin’ Sicilian three stars of the game were third star Mason Wanka, second star Shaun Paulson and first star Sam Ahl.  The Versi-foam Hard Hat Hardest Worker of the game was Nathan Antti. The Culligan Water of West Bend player of the weekend is Sam Ahl.

UP NEXT

The Power will travel to Peoria for the final series with the Mustangs in a Friday-Saturday match up. Friday’s game is at 7:00 and Saturday’s match up is at 6:00 at the Owens Center.  Both games will be broadcast on NA TV.  The Power returns home for Fan and Billet Appreciation Night sponsored by Westbury Bank and Beek’s Joint on Friday, March 6 when they take on the Wisconsin Woodsmen.  The Power age out players will be recognized before the game and the Power billet families will be recognized at first intermission.  The first 500 fans will receive a Power player photo.  There will be free fan drawings throughout the game.  The Great Outdoors Supper Club will be serving the popular Friday Fish Fry before the game starting at 5:00pm.  The first round of the playoffs will be March 12-15, with opponent and days/times TBA.
