The Power opened up the home season at Kettle Moraine Ice Center in exciting fashion sweeping the Mason City Toros in scores of 5-3 both Friday and Saturday night.
Lucca Weinkauf got the Power on the board first for Friday’s home opener at 12:28 of the first period with his second goal of the season off assists from Jackson Hoem (1) and Jace Fitzgerald (1). Grant Schaible scored his first goal of the season, unassisted at 5:28 to give the Power a 2-0 lead after the first period of play. The Power added on with two more goals in the second period. Brecken Meyer scored his first goal of the season at 16:05 off assists from Teagan Scheurer (2) and Monte Goold (2). The second period also brought some fireworks after a hard Montel Goold hit on the Toros. Jameson Clark tried to take matters in his own hands and went after Goold, receiving an instigator penalty and game misconduct for fighting. Goold, who got the better of the match, also received a game misconduct for fighting. Blake Mitchell responded to add on to the Power lead with his second goal of the season at 1:12 off assist from Odin Klebba (2) and Teagan Scheurer (3) for a 4-0 lead after two periods. Mason City got on the board at 15:58 of the third period when Dominic Thomas scored his first of the year. Tommy Kundinger added to the Power led with his first goal of the season at 12:25 off assists from Teagan Scheurer (4) and Jace Fitzgerald (2). The visiting Toros kept things interesting, by adding two more goals at 8:42 (Stone Resch) and 7:12 (Tess Larsen) but the Power hung on for the 5-3 victory. The Power had 32 shots on goal. Owen Soderholm stopped 23 of 26 Mason City shots on goal.
The Palermo’s Screamin Sicilian Three Stars of the Game were third Star Blake Mitchell, second star Grant Schaible and first star Teagan Scheurer. The Versi-foam hard hat hardest worker of the game was Monte Goold.
Saturday it was the home team again striking first. Jace Fitzgerald scored his first of the season at 9:06 off assists from Odin Klebba (3) and Jackson Hoem (2) for the only goal of the first period. The teams traded goals in the second period with the Toros getting on the board at 14:03 with a goal from TJ Gibson. Jackson Hoem answered for the Power at 12:53 for his third goal of the season off assists from Jace Fitzgerald (3) and Teagan Scheurer (5). The Toros scored the next two goals at 4:21 (Aven Prodzinski) and 3:02 (Dominic Thomas) to take a 3-2 lead to the locker room after the second period. The third period was all Power, scoring three times. Jace Fitzgerald struck again at 18:17 off assists from Lucca Weinkauf (2) and Jackson Hoem (3). Brayden Graning scored his first of the season at 11:23 off assists from Oliver Schroeder (1) and Blake Mitchell (1) and Teagan Schuerer (1) sealed the victory on an empty net goal at 1:02 off assist from Tommy Kundinger (1) and Mike Sobaski (2). The Power had 32 shots on goal. Ben Glaesman stopped 17 of 20 Mason City shots on goal.

The Power will have a home and away series this weekend with the Wisconsin Woodsmen. The Power travel to Tomah Friday for a 7:15 match up at Tomah Ice Center. The Power returns Saturday for a 7:30 puck drop against the Woodsmen, sponsored by Game Day Men’s Health. The Great Outdoors Supper Club will be serving pre-game food with “Wing Night” starting at 5:00pm. Wings are $10/pound for bone-in or 10 boneless wings for $8. Both games will be broadcast on NA TV.
