Weekend Recap – Power sweeps Jr. Blues in St. Louis

Coming off a sweep at the NA3HL Showcase, the Power hit the road one more time before the Christmas break to take on the Jr. Blues in St. Louis and picked up right where they left off, sweeping the Jr. Blues 5-1 and 4-2.  With the two wins on the weekend, the Power moved to 25-2-1-1 with 52 points in first place in the Central Division.

The Power entered the weekend with several players out of the line up due to illness, NAHL call ups and injuries, but the Power showed its depth with those in the line up taking care of business. Saturday, the Power put up a commanding 5-1 victory, outshooting the Jr. Blues 48-24.  Danny Jurcich got the scoring started on the weekend with a shorthanded goal, his 7th goal of the season at 18:01 of the first period.  He was assisted by Drew Sparacino (19).  Adam Sexton then capitalized on another shorthanded opportunity at 16:24 of the first for his 5th goal on the season off an Evan Burchardt (11) assist.  St. Louis got on the scoreboard at 13:14 to cut the Power’s lead in half, with a 2-1 score after the first period of play.  Elias Holan scored twice in the second period for his ninth and tenth goals of the season.  On a power play goal at 15:48, Holan was assisted by Elijah Covey (8) and Tristan Hearly (4).  At 5:08 Holan was assisted by Adam Sexton (11) and goaltender Sam Ahl (1).  Danny Jurcich (8) added the Power’s 5th goal, his second of the night l with just 15 seconds remaining in the second period for a 5-1 lead after two periods of play.  There was no scoring by either team in the third period.  Sam Ahl earned the victory in the Power net, stopping 23/24 shots on goal.

Sunday the scoresheet, highlighted with penalty minutes, was much closer, as the teams’ matched shots on goal 25-25, but the Power was able to come away with a 4-2 victory.  There was no scoring by either team in the first period.  The Jr. Blues got on the board first, scoring at 10:36 of the second period.  Shaun Paulson (6) tied the game on a power play goal at 5:06 of the second period off assists from Danny Jurcich (22) and Drew Sparacino (20).  Adam Sexton gave the Power the lead at 2:19 off assists from Elias Holan (5) and Grant Schaible (5) for a 2-1 lead after two periods of play.  The Jr. Blues tied the game at 14:19 of the third period, but Armani Fisher tallied his ninth goal of the season at 4:54 off an assist from Cole Craft (4) for the 3-2 Power lead.  Jurcich sealed the victory with an empty net goal with 19 seconds remaining for the 4-2 final.  Sam Ahl stopped 23/25 Jr. Blues shots on goal earning the victory in the Power net.

UP NEXT

The Power will enjoy a week off for the Christmas holiday.  They will return to Kettle Moraine Ice Center to play the Wausau Cyclones on Friday, January 2 for SKATE WITH THE POWER night.  Fans can bring their skates or rent them for free at the rink and skate with the Power players after the game.  The pre-game meal with the Great Outdoors Supper Club is Potato Bar. Food and beverage service will begin at 5:00pm.  Game time is 7:30pm and will be broadcast on NA TV.
