Weekend Recap – Power sweeps Jr. Blues in St. Louis

Jan 13, 2025

The West Bend Power traveled to St. Louis for the first time this season and came away with a sweep and four points.  Both games finished in exciting overtime fashion, the 4th and 5th overtime games between these two teams in their six meetings to date.

The Power move to 23-7-2-0 and sit in first place in the Central Division in 32 games played with 48 points.

Saturday afternoon’s matchup ended in a 3-2 overtime win for the Power.  There was no scoring by either team in the first period.  Brody Josselyn got the Power on the board at 3:08 of the second period with his fourth goal of the season off assists from Teagan Scheurer (19) and Jackson Hoem (17).  The Power led 1-0 after two periods of play.  The Jr. Blues answered in the first minute of the third period to tie things up.  Teagan Scheurer responded with his 9th goal of the season at 16:14 off assists from Brayden Graning (10) and Brody Josselyn (8).  The Jr. Blues tied the game at 9:04 for the final goal in regulation, forcing overtime.  The Power took advantage of a 5-minute major in overtime when Quinn O’Connor shot a one timer off a pass from Brody Josselyn with just 45 seconds remaining in the extra period for the win.  Brayden Graning also tallied an assist (11) on the winning goal.  Connor Doyle earned the victory in the Power net.  The Power outshot the Jr. Blues 55 to 15.

Saturday it was the Jr. Blues who lit the lamp first, scoring twice in the first period on power play goals, one five on three and one five on four for the 2-0 lead after one period of play.  Evan Burchardt cut the lead in half at 9:46 of the second period off a Brayden Graning assist.  The Jr. Blues took a 3-1 lead just 22 seconds into the third period, but Quinn O’Connor quickly answered with a Power goal, his 6th of the season, just over a minute later to bring the visitors within a goal. The Power killed off a five on three Jr. Blues power play late, and pulled goaltender Owen Soderholm with 27 seconds remaining for the extra skater and after a scramble in front of the net, Jackson Hoem was able to get the puck past St. Louis goaltender Alexander Rivolta for the 3-3 tie to force overtime once again.  Hoem was assisted by Odin Klebba and Mike Sobaski.  The Jr. Blues started the overtime period on the power play as it carried over from regulation.  They were unable to capitalize on the extra man advantage.  Trace Shumlas proved to be the hero in overtime, as he buried a rebound off a Mike Sobaski shot for the win and 4 points on the weekend.  Soderholm earned the victory in the Power net, stopping 23/26 Jr. Blues shots on goal. The Power had 33 shots on goal.

The Culligan Water of West Bend Power Player of the weekend is Brody Josselyn.
