Weekend Recap – Power sweeps Jr. Blues

The Power improved to 35-2-1-1 with 72 points in first place in the Central Division after a sweep of the St. Louis Jr. Blues over the weekend.  The Power entertained the Hockey Fights Cancer fans with an 8-5 win on Friday and a 5-3 win on Saturday.  

Friday

The visitors jumped out to an early lead on Friday, scoring the first two goals of the game at 13:39 and 11:41 in the first period.  The Power was able to respond with three goals of their own in the first period.  Shaun Paulson (9) scored at power play goal at 8:12 off assists from Mason Wanka (19) and Aidan Callaghan (30).  Wanka (15) then scored a short handed goal at 7:29 off assists from Evan Burchardt (19) and Jace Fitzgerald (27).  Danny Jurcich (16) scored at 4:19 off assists from Burchardt (18) and Drew Sparacino (30) for a 3-2 lead after one period of play.  Each team scored a goal in the second period.  Jurcich (17) scored his second of the night at 17:24 off assits from Otis Berge (5) and Jackson Hoem (18).  St. Louis kept it a one goal game, scoring at 4:38 for a 4-3 score after two periods of play.  Aidan Callaghan (12) scored a short handed goal to start the third period off assists from Burchardt (19) and Hoem (19).  Quinn O’Connor (15) scored what proved to be the game winning goal at 18:03 off assits from Jurcich (28) and Hoem (20).  Shaun Paulson added the Power’s 7th goal at 16:52 off assists from Callaghan (31) and Adam Sexton (13).  St. Louis scored their fourth goal at 10:29 but Drew Sparacino (11) responded with another Power goal at 7:44 off assists from Blake Kohnen (26) and Jurcich (29).  The Jr. Blues was able to add one more goal at 3:05 but it wasn’t enough and the Power took the 8-5 victory.  Sam Ahl earned the win in the Power net stopping 22/27 St. Louis shots on goal. The Power had 47 shots on goal.

The Palermo’s Screamin’ Sicilian three stars of the game were third star Danny Jurcich, second star Jackson Hoem and first star Evan Burchardt.  The Versi-foam Hard Hat Hardest Worker of the Game was Shaun Paulson.

Saturday

The Jr. Blues got on the board first again on Saturday with a power play goal at 16:52 for the only scoring in the first period.  Evan Burchardt (5) got the Power on the board at 12:20 of the second period off assists from Shaun Paulson (12) and Tristan Hearly (5).  Mason Wanka (16) gave the Power the lead at 10:52 off assists from Hunter O’Neal (7) and Blake Kohnen (27).  St. Louis took the lead after two goals at 10:17 and a power play goal at 3:01, but Kohnen (9) answered to tie the game with 19 seconds remaining in the second period off assists from Hearly (6) and Wanka (20),   Jace Fitzgerald scored the game winning goal at 17:42 of the third period off assists from Wanka (21) and Nathan Antti (9),  Danny Jurcich sealed the victory with an empty net goal with 57 ticks on the clock off assists from Quinn O’Connor (26) and Aidan Callaghan (32).  Ben Glaesman earned the victory in the Power net, stopping 18/21 Jr. Blues shots on goal.  The Power had 25 shots on goal.

The Palermo’s Screamin’ Sicilian three stars of the game were third star Tristan Hearly, second star Mason Wanka and first star Jace Fitzgerald.  The Versi-foam Hard Hat Hardest Worker of the Game was Evan Burchardt.
