Weekend Recap – Power splits with Mustangs in Peoria

Nov 20, 2023

The Power traveled to Peoria for the first time this season, coming away with 2 points and a split with the Mustangs.

Saturday both teams were off to a bit of a slow start with no scoring in the first period.  Peoria got on the board first at the 8:59 mark of the second period, but the Power was able to answer twice in the last two minutes of the period off goals from Cole Fenske, assisted by Andrew Butler and Teagan Scheurer at 1:38, and Teagan Scheurer scoring unassisted at 51.7. The Power held the 2-0 for the entire third period, as neither team was able to net another goal. Brooks Barofsky stopped 27 of 28 Mustangs shots on goal.

It was the home team coming away with a 4-2 win in Sunday’s afternoon match up.  The Power struck first scoring at 2:52 when Oliver Schroeder scored his first goal of the season to give the Power a 1-0 lead to end the first period.  The second period belonged to the Mustangs, scoring three times, at 14:42, 5:07 and 2:51 for a 3-1 lead after two.  The Power pulled netminder Gavin Wohlmacher for an extra attacker with 4 minutes remaining in the period, and the Mustangs were able to add a goal off a long range trickle in shot to make it 4-1 with 2:43 remaining.  The Power brought it back to a pair with a Bryce Garber goal at 1:27 remaining but couldn’t add any more, and the Power took the loss. Gavin Wohlmacher suffered the loss in the Power net, stopping 27 of 31 Mustangs shots on goal.

The Kundinger Fluid Power Player of the Weekend goes to Brooks Barofsky for his performance in Saturday’s game.

The Power sits in first place in the Central Division with a 14-2-0-1 record and 29 points.  The Mustangs moved to 4-13-2-0 in fifth place in the Central.
