Weekend Recap – Power splits with Alexandria

The West Bend Power made the trek to Alexandria, MN to take on the Alexandria Blizzard of the West Division in a two-game series and came away with a split and two points in the standings, moving them into first place in the Central Division.  Both teams entered the weekend in second place in their respective divisions.  The Power moved 16-7-1-0 in 24 games played with 33 points.  

Friday, the Power couldn’t find an offensive spark, going nearly three full periods without a goal.  The Blizzard scored once in the first period, once in the second and twice in the third. Danny Juchich spoiled the shutout, scoring his second goal of the season with just 8 seconds remaining for the 4-1 final.  He was assisted by Grant Schaible (8) and Quinn O’Connor (5).  The Power had 42 shots on goal to Alexandria’s 30 shots on goal. Connor Doyle took the loss in the Power net.

Saturday, the Power was able to regroup and rebounded with a 3-2 victory.  Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first for a scoreless period.  Quinn O’Connor got the Power on the board with his third goal of the season at 17:43 of the second period off assists from Trace Shumlas (3) and Hunter O’Neal (3).  Sam Harper tallied his third goal of the season at 13:24 of the second off the assist from Quinn O’Connor (6).  Mike Sobaski extended Power lead to 3 goals at 6:45 of the second with his 7th goal of the season off assists from Brayden Graning (7) and Brody Josselyn (6).  The Blizzard capitalized on Power penalties to keep things interesting, with power play goals at 4:34 of the second period and 1:49 of the third, but the Power hung on for the 3-2 final. Adam Prokop got the win in the Power net, saving 32/34 Alexandria shots on goal.  The Power had 26 shots on goal.

The Culligan Water of West Bend player of the weekend is Quinn O’Connor.

UP NEXT

The Power will travel to Wausau to take on the Cyclones for one game Friday, December 13 at 7:10pm at Marathon Park before heading to the NA3HL League Showcase December 15-17 in Blaine, MN.  The Power will face the Norwich Sea Captains of the East Division on Sunday, December 15 at 5:45pm, the Sheridan Hawks of the Frontier Division on Monday, December 16 at 12:15pm and the Minnesota Wilderness of the West Division on Tuesday, December 17 at 12:15pm.  All games will be broadcast on NA TV.
