The Power traveled to Wausau to take on the Cyclones in a Central Division battle and came away with just one point in an overtime match up Saturday. They dropped Friday’s game 3-0 before falling to the Cyclones in a shoot-out Saturday.
Friday the Power failed to light the lamp in three periods of play. The Cyclones scored twice in the second period, and an empty net with 2:34 remaining for the win. Adam Prokop suffered the loss in the Power net, stopping 28 of 31 Wausau shots. The Power had 44 shots on goal.
Saturday was a much better start with the Power going up 2-0 off two Michael Maillette goals in the first period. His first goal at 15:44 was assisted by Drew Sparacino (13) and Jozef Silhar (1). Maillette’s second goal at 9:30 was assisted by Teagan Scheurer (24) and Trace Shumlas (8). Wausau scored once in the second and once in the third period to tie the game and send it to overtime. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in overtime, sending the game to a shootout. Newly acquired Jozef Silhar went first for the Power and got one blocker side past Tanner Bonjonoor. Adam Prokop stopped the first Cyclone shooter. Jackson Hoem was unable to score in the second round, and Wausau’s Jake Germum tied it at one on his attempt. Andrew Browe was unable to get a shot off and Wausau finished the scoring in the third round for the win.
The Culligan Water of West Bend player of the weekend is Michael Maillette.
The Power still sits in first place with 41 games played and 62 points with a game in hand on second and third place. Wausau is in second place with 61 points and Rochester in third place with 57, both teams having played 42 games.
