The Milwaukee Power kicks off 2023 on the road this weekend, traveling to Breezy Point, MN to face the West Division Minnesota Loons in a two-game, Friday-Saturday match up.
The two teams last faced each other in October at Kettle Moraine Ice Center and split the series, with the Loons taking game one 3-0 and the Power answering in game two with a 5-3 victory.
Rosters have changed a bit since that meeting and this weekend will prove to be a tough matchup for the Power. The Loons are 3-1 in their last 4 games after an impressive 3-0 run at the NA3HL showcase. They are led in scoring by Dimitri Kuloshov, Willem Kerr and Evan Fritze.
The Power is on a 7-2 stretch coming off a 4-game winning streak beating the Rochester Grizzlies on December 10, then going 3-0 at the NA3HL Showcase. The Power defeated the Danbury Jr. Hatricks, the Butte Cobras and the New Ulm Steel in December in Blaine, MN.
The Power is lead in scoring by Patrick Toomey with 41 points, Blake Keller with 31 (total) points and Max Erstad with 24 points. The Power added strength and depth to its defensive core this week with the addition of Milwaukee-native Alex Thundercloud and goaltender Gavin Wohlmacher. The Power is expected to split the net between goaltenders Adam Prokop and Brett Holmer this weekend. The Power will look for a continued balanced scoring attack and strong goaltending to keep the winning streak going.
“The team needs to come out, coming off of break, focused and ready to compete against a very strong Minnesota Loons team. They need to be mentally prepared as it is a long bus ride up and they’ll have to be ready to play their best hockey on visiting ice. Goaltending will once again be a key factor for success this weekend,” said Power VP Hockey Operations, General Manager Kevin Marion.
Both games are at 7:30pm at the Breezy Point Sports Center and will be broadcast on HockeyTV.
