Stats Aren’t the Only Thing That Matter As the NA3HL kicks off the new year the Milwaukee Power are back at work for the final three months of the regular season. This week the twins, Ben and Caleb Beversdorf, went to Kansas to skate with the Topeka Pilots of the NAHL after being scouted in the NA3HL Showcase in mid-December.“When I saw them in the showcase it was more so their work ethic that made them stand out. For our style of hockey were trying to bring in kids that are able to work every day consistently and bring in 100% effort and that’s something that I saw out of them at the showcase, every game I watched it was the same effort cause the level never changed, maybe their point production wasn’t the same but the effort level never changed,” said Justin DeMartino, Topeka’s Assistant Coach. “You can always coach systems and where to be and fine tune stuff, but you can’t coach effort so that made it an easy decision for us to bring these guys down to practice with us and see what they are about at the NAHL level.” The twins are in their second season in the NA3, first season in Milwaukee, and have been able to put up points on the stat sheet but they also make a big difference on special teams, especially on the penalty kill. Back in the season opener they were an integral part of the Power’s first win as they killed off a penalty with less than three-minutes left in the 3rd with a one goal lead. It is that type of effort that has gotten them this opportunity to further advance their Junior hockey careers. “This opportunity means a lot. So far, this season has been a blast playing with the Power. Being able to be a part of something brand new and accomplish the things we have done that people thought we could never do, is incredible. And now, to have this opportunity with Topeka is huge. Every player’s goal is to move up as far as they can in hockey. If we get an opportunity to play at the Tier 2 level, we would get a little more exposure, which would hopefully let us reach our ultimate goal of playing college hockey. I’d like to thank Topeka for giving us this opportunity as well as Chase Ernst, Power President of Hockey Operations, and the Power for everything they have done to get us to this point,” said Ben Beversdorf. “It is very exciting to be able to skate with Topeka. The season in Milwaukee, so far, has exceeded my expectations. We are having more success than people thought we would, and the team has been a blast to play with. The ultimate goal in junior hockey, is to get to the next level, and this is hopefully our first step in that direction. In the end, we hope to play 4 years of college hockey after our junior career, and the exposure we could gain at Tier 2 would help us to achieve that goal. I'd like to thank Topeka for giving us this opportunity and the Power for bringing us to Milwaukee back in August,” said Caleb Beversdorf The Beversdorf’s will be back in black this weekend when the Power take on the Jr. Blues in St. Louis as they look to get back to even in the Central Division standings before taking on the Peoria Mustangs on Sunday. The division race is a tight one and with home ice on the line for the playoffs in March the games this weekend look like they will carry a playoff like atmosphere. “I want to thank the Milwaukee Power and Chase Ernst, we worked with Chase this summer and I just want to say thank you for letting these guys come out to showcase their skills, it means a lot for the players and it helps us as well being able to evaluate these guys further being able to watch them practice and see what they are about,” said Justin DeMartino.
