The Power have completed a trade that sends three players to the Evansville Jr Thunderbolts. The players in the trade were forwards Collin Brown and JJ Landers along with defenseman Declan O’Neal. In return the Power receive two tenders and an 8th round pick for 2019.
Brown and Landers are coming off of their rookie seasons in the NA3HL where they both scored 2 goals and 3 assists. Brown and Landers played in less than 28 games each for the Point Mallard Ducks last season.
O’Neal on the other hand has played two seasons in the NA3HL with his best season being his rookie year with the Nashville Jr Predators when he played in 41 games scoring 7 goals and 15 assists. Last season O’Neal played in only 23 games and scored only 5 goals and 8 assists.
Why would a team trade only for tenders and draft picks? Tenders are very valuable because they allow a team to sign a player before the leagues draft which means that team has that players rights to play in the NA3HL and they cannot be recruited by any other team in the NA3HL. The Power are in the middle of signing players for the 2018 season but they feel that this was a move for building for the future by having the ability to sign players that are talented and want to play in Milwaukee and don’t have to worry about another team taking them in the draft.
This was the first trade for the Power and it certainly will not be the last.
