The Power were on their last road trip of the season last weekend and faced the Jr. Blues. The last time the Power visited St. Louis was early this season and resulted in a series split.
The Milwaukee would start Kaden Grant in net and St. Louis would go with Espen Reager. The Power offense would get off to a blazing fast start as Max Erstad notched his 15th goal of the season less then two minutes into the opening frame, assisted by Jack Wojnowski and Nate Stone. Cam Dahl would stretch the lead to two less then a minute latter with the lone assist going to Mason Ausmus. Just shy of 13 minutes to go in the first, Riley Planey would score his ninth goal of the season and Matthew Ebersole picked up an assist. The Blues pulled Reager at this point for Ethan Jourden to try to get back on track. He would give up a goal six minutes later to Patrick Toomey and Ausmus picked up his second assist of the night. The score would remain unchanged for the rest of the period as the Power had a commanding four goal lead heading into the first intermission.
The Power offense was coming off of one of if not their best period of the season but they would be ice cold for the remaining 40 minutes as they failed to add to their lead. The Blues would cut the deficit to two goals as Jacob Heuerman and Russell Hess would score their first goals of the season. Heuerman would score again early in the third period to give St. Louis a chance. Had Ausmus not pulled a puck off the Power goal line in the middle of the first the game could have been tied at this point. Eight minutes into the third Grant would be replaced by Spencer Northway in the Power crease after suffering an injury. Milwaukee would hang on to their one goal lead to pick up their 15th win while St. Louis suffered their 36th loss.
Both teams would start different goalies in the second game and both saw relief action the night before as the Power would start Northway and the Blues would go with Jourden. Milwaukee’s offense would not get the hot start they had the night before as St. Louis would get the lone goal of the first from Carter Eifert. The Blues would lead by one after the first 20 minutes of play.
Carrying over from the night before the Power were held without a goal for three straight periods. They would find a pair of sparks in the second period on the power play as Toomey would score, assisted by Planey and Stone to tie the game. Six minutes later Michael Dalaly would score his eighth power play goal of the season, assisted by Ausmus and Stone. The score would remain unchanged the rest of the way as the Power swept the Blues in St. Louis for the first time in team history while picking up win number 16.
The Blues come to Milwaukee next weekend for the final series of the season and the Power look to sweep St. Louis for the third time this season. The Power offense has struggled to find consistency this season and it showed last weekend as they did not score in four of the six periods. They will need to find a way to play with a lead this weekend and limit their turnovers, especially the ones that lead to break away chances.
