The Milwaukee Power were back in action last night facing off against the Rochester Grizzlies after a two week break from their season opening series. The Grizzlies opened their season on the road last weekend in Oregon as they swept the Tradesmen to tie Milwaukee for the division lead. Rookie goaltender Spencer Northway would get his first start in net for the Power with veteran netminder Zach Wiese at the other end for the Grizzlies.
Rochester would open the scoring just over six minutes into the first period from Connor Mahoney. The Power would even the score at the 8:50 mark as defensemen Mason Ausmus tallied his first goal of the season. Milwaukee wasn’t able to ride the momentum as Rochester would regain the lead just 21 seconds later thanks to Kade Shea. The Grizzlies would increase their lead to two at the 13:43 mark as Kolton Kane scored his second goal of the season.
The second period was littered with Rochester penalties giving Milwaukee four power-plays but they were unable to capitalize on the man advantage. Max Breon would increase the Grizzlies lead to three with just 10 seconds remaining in the period.
Half way through the third the Power would be back on the power-play and were finally able to capitalize and cut the lead to two as Michael Dalaly scored his third goal of the season, assisted be David Nappier. Rochester would take another penalty not long after but were able to keep the Milwaukee power-play units at bay. The Power would get the extra attacker on in the final minute of the game and Ben Cremers would score in the final two seconds to get back within one but Milwaukee was out time as they came up short. Northway faced 37, shots stopping 33 and Wiese faced 24, stopping 21.
“We had a slow start tonight and that really hurt us having to chase down three goals in the third,” said David Nappier, Power defenseman and Alternate Captain. “The bounces just weren’t going our way and their goalie made some great stops on two to three chances for us that could have been the difference. We can take some positives away in that we fought our way back to the final buzzer but now we have to focus on next weekend with Wausau coming to town.”
