The Milwaukee Power face off against the Wausau Cyclones for three games this weekend in what has become do or die time for Milwaukee. The Power trail the Cyclones by eight points in the Central standings and cannot afford to come out of this weekend with less than two wins but they want all three so they don’t need as much help from Wausau’s remaining opponents. Wausau has the lead in the series this season having won three out of the five games against Milwaukee. The last time these two teams met it was for two games in Wausau that resulted in a split.
Friday night’s game is in Milwaukee and the Cyclones have won two games here this season, both of them by one goal. The Saturday and Sunday games will be played in Wausau and the Power have only won one game in the Cyclones house this season. The Power are in a tough spot having struggled on the road this year with only three wins and needing to get it done on the road down the stretch.
The Milwaukee offense will need to test the Wausau goaltenders early and often in order to create the secondary chances that they need in order to score and not get off to the slow starts that have plagued them this season. The Power were at their best this season when they had net front presence and scored ugly goals multiple times a game in their early wins. We can expect both of these teams to be hungry this weekend as neither has made the playoffs the last two seasons.
