Power sweeps three-game weekend road trip

The Power went into the weekend knowing they had a challenge ahead of them, playing three road games in over 1,000 miles on the bus with quick turnaround times, and they faced it head on, winning all three games and gaining six points in the standings.

Friday the Power traveled to Tomah to take on the Wisconsin Woodsmen and came away with a 6-2 win.  Tomah got the scoring started on the night, less than 5 minutes into the game for an early 1-0 lead.  Odin Klebba was able to find the back of the net for his 4th goal of the season with just 21 seconds remaining for a 1-1 tie after one period.  Klebba was assisted by Quinn O’Connor (11) and Mike Sobaski (11).  Tomah started the scoring again in the second period at 17:47 for a 2-1 lead but the Power answered 4 times in the period.  Quinn O’Connor scored his 7th goal of the season at 14:08 off assists from Danny Jurcich (6) and Brayden Graning (14) to tie things at 2 each.  Jackson Hoem scored his 21st goal of the season off a Trace Shumlas (7) assist at 10:34 for the Power’s first lead of the game. Brody Josselyn (5) added the Power’s 4th goal at 7:07 off assists from Teagan Scheurer (21) and Tommy Kundinger (11) and Mike Sobaski added his 11th goal of the season with just under two minutes remaining for a 5-2 lead after two periods of play.  Sobaski was assisted by Kundinger (12) and Lucca Weinkauf (15).  The only scoring in the third period was a Teagan Scheurer goal, his 11th of the season, at 2:25 of the period off assists from Mike Sobaski (12) and Brody Josselyn (13).  Adam Prokop earned the win in the Power net, stopping 23/25 Woodsmen shots on goal.  The Power had 29 shots on goa.

The Saturday afternoon match up in St. Louis proved to be much different than the previous 5 meetings between the two teams that all ended in overtime. The Power took game one of the series in dominating 6-1 fashion.  The only goal scored in the first period came at the 5:51 mark when Teagan Scheurer scored his 12th goal of the season off assists from Mike Sobaski (13) and Brody Josselyn (14).  The Power lit the lamp four times in the second period off two goals from Jackson Hoem (22, 23), both assisted by Blake Mitchell (11,12) and his second also by Teagan Scheurer (22).  Evan Eisch scored his first goal as a Power at the 10:45 mark off an assist from Trace Shumlas (8).  Quinn O’Connor added to the strong offensive period with his 8th goal of the season off a Brayden Graning (15) assist.  St. Louis was able to score in the period for the 5-1 difference after two periods of play.  The only scoring in the third period was Mike Sobaski’s 12th of the season at 4:19 off assists from Odin Klebba (14) and Lucca Weinkauf (16).  The Power had 37 shots on goal.  Adam Prokop earned his second victory of the weekend, stopping 26/27 Jr. Blues shots on goal.

Sunday morning started out an offensive battle with 6 total goals scored in the first period.  Teagan Scheurer started things off at 16:08 of the period with his 13th goal of the season off assists from Brody Josselyn (15) and Blake Mitchell (13).  Trace Shumlas went bar down at 11:20 with his 5th goal of the season off assists from Quinn O’Connor (12) and Mike Sobaski (14).  Evan Burchardt extended the Power lead to three, scoring from the red line, with his third goal of the season at 9:15 off assists from Josselyn (16) and Tommy Kundinger (13).  The Jr. Blues answered twice, at 5:12 and 4:04, but Brayden Graning put the visitors up by two to end the period, scoring his 6th of the season with 29 seconds remaining for a 4-2 Power lead after one period of play.  Graning was assisted by Danny Jurcich (7) and Quinn O’Connor (13).  The only scoring of the second period was a Jr. Blues goal at 9:14 to bring them within a goal at the end of the second period.  The Power kept their foot on the gas and scored two more in the third period for the eventual 6-3 final and 8th win in a row.  Brayden Graning scored his 7th goal of the season off assists from Danny Jurcich (8) and Hunter O’Neal (5) and Jackson Hoem sealed the game with a breakaway goal off assists from Drew Sparacino (10) and Teagan Scheurer (23).  Ben Glasemen earned the victory in the Power net, stopping 27/30 St. Louis shots on goal.  The Power had 44 shots on goal.

The Culligan Water of West Bend player of the weekend is Mike Sobaski.

The Power sits in first place in the Centra Division at 28-7-2-0 in 37 games played with 58 points and is the first team in the Central Division to clinch a Fraser Cup playoff spot.

The Power returns to home ice this weekend to face the Rochester Grizzlies for HOCKEY FIGHTS CANCER weekend in a Friday-Saturday series at Kettle Moraine Ice Center.  Both games are at 7:30pm.  The Power will be wearing custom cancer jerseys sponsored by Westbury Bank.  The jerseys will be auctioned off with proceeds benefitting Relay for Life Washington County.  Auction begins Wednesday and will close Sunday night.  Watch Power social media for details and bidding link.
