Power sweeps Peoria in home opening weekend

The West Bend Power opened up the 25-26 in winning fashion, sweeping the visiting Peoria Mustangs by the scores of 4-1 on Friday and 5-3 on Saturday.

Friday night’s Opening Night Tailgate was sponsored by Graff Masonry.  The Power opened the scoring with 4:43 remaining in the first period on a power play goal from Andrew Burny, the Power’s first goal of the season, for a 1-0 edge.  Burny was assisted by Danny Jurcich and Quinn O’Connor. The Power struck again just 27 seconds later when Cole Craft netted the eventual game winner at 15:44 of the opening period.  Craft was assisted by Drew Sysko and Hunter O’Neal. Ian Ingles got the Mustangs on the board at 14:48 of the second period to cut the Power lead to 2-1 but Drew Sysko extended the lead to 3-1 with his first goal of the season at 3:30.  He was assisted by Danny Jurcich (2) and Armani Fisher (1).  Jace Fitzgerald tallied his first of the year at 9:47 of the third period, the only scoring of the period for the 4-1 final.  Fitzgerald was assisted by Danny Jurcich (3) and Tristan Hearley. Ben Glaesman earned the victory n the Power net stopping 18 of 19 shots on goal. The Power had 45 shots on goal.

The Palermo’s Screamin’ Sicilian three stars of the game were: third start Cole Craft, second star Drew Sysko and first star Danny Jurcich.

The Versi-foam Hard Hat Hardest Worker of the game was Tristan Hearley.

Saturday: PEO 3 – WBD 5

Saturday night’s SKATE WITH THE POWER night was sponsored by Westbury Bank.  The Power got on the board just 1:44 into the game when Andrew Burny tallied his second goal of the weekend for a quick 1-0 advantage for the home team.  He ws assisted by Danny Jurcich (4) and Jace Fitzgerald (2).  The Mustangs knotted the game at 9:52 of the period skating on the power play. The Power answered with a shorthanded goal just 1:27 later when Jace Fitzgerald tallied his second of the weekend, giving the Power a 2-1 lead.  He was assisted by Danny Jurcich (5).  The Power increased the lead to 3-1 at 13:17 of the second period when Elias Holan scored his first of the season off a Jace Fitzgerald (2) assist. The Mustangs moved within a goal just past the midway point of the period when Charlie Anthony IV cut the deficit to 3-2. The Power answered on a Jace Fitzgerald goal at 5:41 of the second, his third of the weekend off assists from Quinn O’Connor (2) and another from Danny Jurcich, tallying his 6th assist of the weekend.  Cole Craft (2) added the fifth and final goal for the Power at 13:04 of the third period off assists from Drew Sysko (2) and Sam Harper (1).  Wyatt Duke was able to add a goal for the visitors in the third period, but it wasn’t enough and the Power came away with the 5-3 win.  Power netminder Peter Burke earned the victory, stopping 23 of 26 shots. The Power had 30 shots on goal

The Power travels to St. Louis to take on the Jr. Blues in a two-game series at Affton Ice Rink.  Friday’s game is at 7:50pm and Saturday’s game is at 6:00pm.  Both games will be broadcast on NA TV.
