Power sweeps Cyclones in Wausau

The Power traveled to Wausau for a two-game series with the Cyclones in their home opening weekend and played spoilers, winning both games at Marathon Park.

Friday, the Power jumped in front early and never really looked back, coming away with a 5-1 victory.  Wyatt Emmett scored his first goal of the season to open up the scoring at 18:44 of the first period.  He was assisted by Danny Jurcich (8) and Evan Burchardt (2).  Brody Josselyn scored the Power’s second goal at 6:57, his fourth of the season for a 2-0 Power lead after one period.  Josselyn was assisted by Jackson Hoem.  The Power doubled their score in the second period off Jace Fitzgerald (6) goal at 18:57 and another Brody Josselyn (5) goal at 13:16.  Blake Kohnen assisted in Fitzgerald’s goal and Fitzgerald (3) assisted on Josselyn’s goal.  Tristan Hearly scored his first goal of the season at 15:56 of the third period off a Quinn O’Connor (3) assist for the 5-0 lead.  Wausau was able to score a power play goal with 2:34 remaining in the game but couldn’t pull any closer.  The Cyclones outshot the Power 25-20.  Ben Glaesman earned the victory in the Power net. Taner Bonjonoor suffered the loss for the home team.

Saturday’s match up was filled with scoring and excitement, with the Power pulling out a 7-4 win and a sweep on the weekend.  Drew Sparacino got the Power on the board at 17:03 of the first period off assist from Brody Josselyn and Otis Berge.  Jace Fitzgerald followed with his first of three goals on the night at 16:13 off assist from Quinn O’Connor (4) and Blake Kohnen (2) for the 2-0 lead after the first period.  The Power poured on three more goals in the second period.  Quinn O’Connor scored at 10:59 off assists from Tristan Hearley and Blake Kohnen.  Fitzgerald scored his second of the night at 8:45 off assists from Drew Sparacino and Brody Josselyn.  Armani Fisher scored his first goal of the season at 5:32 off assists from Kohnen and Adam Sexton.  Wausau scored once in the period for a 5-1 Power lead after two periods of play.  The third period got interesting, as Wausau was able to cut the lead to 5-4 with 10 minutes to go in the game after two goals from Jackson Schroeder and one from Eli Hoffmann.  But with no scoring for the next nine minutes, the Power was able to secure two empty net goals for the win.  Tristan Hearley scored with 58 seconds to go, and Fitzgerald capped off a hat trick with 20 seconds on the clock off assists from Jurcich and O’Connor.  The Power had 32 shots on goal. Ben Glaesman earned his second victory of the weekend, his fourth on the season, stopping 22 of 26 Cyclone shots on goal.

The Culligan Water of West Bend Player of the Weekend is Jace Fitzgerald, with four goals and an assist in the weekend sweep, scoring a hat trick on Saturday.  Fitzgerald has 12 points (9 goals and 3 assists) on the early season.

UP NEXT

The Power will travel to Tomah to take on the Wisconsin Woodsmen on Friday at 7:15pm at Tomah Ice Center.  Saturday, the Power will host the Woodsmen at Kettle Moraine Ice Center at 7:30pm for First Responders’ Night.  All first responders get in free.  Saturday is also Wing Night with the Great Outdoors Supper Club. Pre-game food and bar open at 5:00pm.
