It was an interesting weekend as the Power and RiverWolves went at it in a home and home series.
The series started at Ozaukee on Friday night with Ewan McDevitt getting his first start in net for Milwaukee. He would stop 32 of 37 shots faced, giving up four goals in the 3rd period.
The RiverWolves carried a one goal lead into the 2nd period where the craziest series of events led to a Power goal to tie the game. The RiverWolves believing they had scored began to celebrate and took out the referee, Anthony Vikhter, in the Milwaukee end but no whistle was blown. Tyler Nelson and Brady Rossbach would go on the attack with a two on none breakaway and Rossbach would score with the Linesmen, Haley Yates and Matt Valerio, sticking with the play and Yates signaled goal. After a long break in the action and discussion with the goal judge in the Power end the Milwaukee goal was counted with Nelson and Daniel Smolen credited with assists. The 2nd period would end tied at 1-1.
The RiverWolves would score two even strength and two power play goals in the 3rd to make the final 5-1 as they picked up their third win on the year. This was the Power’s ninth straight loss and not the start they wanted to their weekend as they looked to gain ground on St. Louis in the division standings.
On Saturday night Cole Shane would make his 10th start in net for the Power. He would stop 24 of 25 shots faced for his first win of the season. Brady Rossbach would score the lone goal of the 1st, assisted by Devin Huie and Michael Dalaly on the power play.
In the 2nd Dalaly would score on the power play, assisted by Rossbach and Huie to stretch the lead to two. Wausau would respond with an even strength goal cutting the lead in half.
In the 3rd the RiverWolves could not stay out of the penalty box as the Power would add two more goals on the power play. The first one coming from Garrett Alton, assisted by Ben Cope and Mason Ausmus. The second one was scored by Teddy Marion after a great pass from Huie and was also assisted by Tyler Nelson.
The Power are back at Ozaukee this weekend but will be the road team in their own building as the series was originally to be played in Oregon.
