Power picks up 3 points in weekend split with Toros

The Power came away with three of four possible points in the series with the West Division Mason City Toros in Mason City, IA over the weekend, dropping game one in a 4-3 overtime shootout loss on Saturday and picking up a 4-1 win on Sunday.  The Power moves to 7-2-0-1 with 15 points on the season.

Saturday

Mason City opened the scoring at 12:39 of the first period behind Kellen Kantaris’s goal.  Malloy Lomheim was able to respond at 8:34 with his first goal of the season off first time assists from Andrew Burny and Elias Holan.  Kantaris answered that goal just a minute later for a Toros 2-1 lead after the first period of play.  Quinn O’Connor scored the only goal of the second period at 3:38 off assits from Cole Craft (1) and Adam Sexton (3) to even the score heading into the third period.  Jace Fitzgerald scored his 11th goal of the season at 6:21 off another Sexton (4) assist, but the Toros were able to tie things up at 2:43 to send the game to overtime.  There was no scoring in overtime, sending the game to a shoot out.  Drew Sysko and Jackson Hoem scored for the Power in the seven-round shootout, but Mason City’s 7th shooter was able to beat Power netminder Ben Glaesman for the win.  The Power outshot the Toros 44-30.  

Sunday

The Power was able to respond in the Sunday matinee for a 4-1 win, picking up 3 of the possible 4 points on the weekend.  There was no scoring in the first period.  Mason City’s TJ Gibson started the scoring in the second period on a power play goal, but the power was able to answer twice in the period.  Jackson Hoem (2) scored just 7 seconds after Mason’s City goal to tie the game off assists from Drew Sparacino (11) and Blake Kohnen (7).  Dlyan Mees scored his first goal of the season at 4:50 off assists from Jace Fitzgerald (7) and Hoem (5) for the 2-1 lead after two periods of play.  The Power doubled their scoring in the third period while keeping the Toros scoreless.  Wyatt Emmett (4) added on at 17:44 off assists from Evan Burchardt (5) and Hunter O’Neal (2) and Austin Westergaard sealed the game with an empty net goal with 59 seconds remaining.  Westergaard was assisted by Drew Sparacino.  Ben Knutson earned his first win in the Power net, stopping 30/31 Toros shots on goal.  The Power had 25 shots on goal.

UP NEXT

The Power travels to Rochester, MN to take on the Grizzlies in a two-game series Friday and Saturday at the Rochester Recreation Center. Both games are at 7:05pm and will be broadcast on NA TV.

LOOK AHEAD

The Power will play the Grizzlies again in Rochester on Friday, October 24 before returning home to Kettle Moraine Ice Center on Saturday, October 25 to take on the Wausau Cyclones. October 25 is Halloween Costume Contest sponorsed by Kohler Credit Union.  All fans in costume will receive free admission and can take part in a costume contest during the first intermission.
