Get To Know Healing Warrior Hearts

Nov 9, 2021

This Thursday, Nov. 11, the Milwaukee Power will be teaming up with Healing Warrior Hearts for their Veteran’s Day game. Recently, the Power’s very own Anthony Maiorca and Trent Van Gels visited the organization to learn more about who they are and what they do in support of veterans.

Patricia Clason, founder of Healing Warrior Hearts, explains that the organization has been putting on free retreats for veterans for almost 30 years. These retreats focus on the “emotional wounds” and overall stress that people in the military face; this can be caused by combat or simply being away for a long period of time. Aside from hosting these retreats, Healing Warrior Hearts also holds seminars and support groups which aid veterans in personal growth and emotional healing.

Veteran Rick Benoit spoke with Van Gels about his personal experience with Healing Warrior Hearts. Prior to finding out about the organization, Benoit didn’t know how to handle his emotions, dealing with a lot of anger after being in the war. He eventually joined a program for Vietnam veterans called Bamboo Bridge, which was co-founded by Clason. However, this organization went through some changes and, in time, led to the creation of Healing Warrior Hearts. In comparison to Bamboo Bridge, Healing Warrior Hearts aims to help all veterans, no matter where they served.

“I’ve been with the program now for 23 years and I still learn,” Benoit said.
