Fraser Cup Recap – Power finishes Runner Ups

Mar 31, 2025

The Power traveled to St. Louis for the Fraser Cup Championship at the St. Peter’s Rec Plex in St. Peters MO and came up just one game short, finishing as 2025 NA3HL Runner-ups after dropping the championship game to the Louisiana Drillers 5-1,

Just six teams were able to boast about making the tournament.  Division champions West Bend Power (Central), Granite City Lumberjacks (West), Helena Bighorns (Frontier), Louisian Drillers (South) and Binghamton Buzz (East) and wild card New Mexico Ice Wolves (South) matched up in St. Louis for the eventual league champion to be crowned.

In game one of the round robin play on Wednesday, the Power took game one over the Helena Bighorns 2-1.  Helena got on the board first at 12:18 of the first period for a 1-0 lead after one.  Danny Jurcich tied things up at 3:11 of the second period, and Kelly Coldwater scored what proved to be the winning goal at 19:07 of the third as the Power held the lead with strong defensive play.  Adam Prokop secured the victory in the Power net, stopping 23/24 Helena shots on goal. The Power had 31 shots on goal.

In game two on Wednesday, the Power picked up a critical point, sending the game to overtime which ended up in a 4-3 final win by the New Mexico Ice Wolves.  Scoring for the Power were Teagan Scheurer in the first period and Kelly Coldwater and Jackson Hoem in the third period, Adam Prokop has saved 26/30 Ice Wolves shots on goal. The Power had 28 shots on goal.

The Power entered the Saturday semi-finals as the #2 seed in Pool A and faced off against the Granite City Lumberjacks, the #1 seed in Pool B.  In what was a hard-fought defensive battle, the Power came away with a 2-0 victory which advanced them to the championship on Sunday.   Trace Shumlas scored the first goal of the game at 4:11 of the second period.  The game stayed that way until Tegan Scheurer scored the empty net goal with just 6.8 seconds remaining to seal the win.  Adam Prokop stopped all 23 Granite City shots on goal.

The Power made it to the Fraser Cup championship game for the first time in franchise history and faced off against the Louisiana Drillers on Sunday.  The Drillers struck first at 4:42 of the first period.  The Power was able to tie things up late in in the first with a goal from Michael Maillette, but despite several scoring opportunities were unable to light the lamp again in the game.  The Drillers scored twice in the second period and twice in the third, one into an empty net for the eventual 5-1 final.

Playing 7 games in 10 days and a long list of injured players proved to be too much for the Power as they fell short in the final game of the year.  “We fell short today, but I’m just so proud of the effort of our team here and all through the road to get to this point.  They played so hard until the end but just ran out of steam today,” said Power head coach Jason Woods.

The Power organization would like to thank our fans, billets, sponsors and the West Bend community for their support throughout the entire season.  Watch Power social media for information on the end of season jersey auction and early bird season ticket options for the 25-26 season.
