Weekend Recap – Power sweeps Jr. Blues, extends winning streak to 12

The top two teams in the Central Division matched up at Kettle Moraine Ice Center this past weekend, and the Power came away with two strong wins, sweeping the Jr Blues of St. Louis 6-2 Friday and 8-3 Saturday, extending the winning streak to 12 games and remaining undefeated at home this season.

Friday the Power got out to a quick lead, just 17 seconds into the game off a Brody Josselyn (7) goal, assisted by Blake Kohnen (12) and Adam Sexton (8).  St Louis tied the game on a Chase Kozma goal at 11:53 of the period.  Drew Sparacino scored his sixth goal of the season to regain the lead at 7:40 off another Kohnen (13) assist and an assist from Jackson Hoem (15).   Michael Maillette (2) scored what proved to be the game winning goal, the first of his hat trick night at 2:24 off assists from Shaun Paulson (5) and Armani Fisher (6) for a 3-1 lead after the first period of play.  St. Louis cut the lead in half at 13:50 of the second period off a Jace Jordan goal.  Maillette (3) scored his second on the night with 22 seconds remaining in the period off assists again from Paulson (6) and Fisher (7). giving the Power a 4-2 lead after two periods of play.  Maillette scored his third goal of the night to complete the hat trick to open the third period off Paulson (7) and Fisher (8) assists.  Wyatt Emmett (5) finished the scoring on the night at 17:02 off assists from Elisa Holan (2) and Evan Burchardt (7).  Peter Burke earned the victory in the Power net, stopping 30/32 St. Louis shots on goal. The Power had 46 shots on goal.

The Palermo’s Screamin’ Sicilian Three Stars of the Game were third star Drew Sparacino, second star Blake Kohnen and first star Michael Maillette. The Versi-foam Hard Hat Hardest Worker of the game was Shaun Paulson.

Saturday started very much like Friday, with a quick Power goal to take the lead just 18 seconds into the game. Quinn O’Connor scored his 7th goal of the season off assists from Danny Jurcich (20) and Elijah Covey (3) for the early 1-0 lead.  Jackson Hoem (5) scored the Power’s second goal off a St. Louis turnover at 10:38 off assists from Quinn O’Connor (14) and Andrew Burny (3).  Danny Jurcich (5) then scored a power play goal at 7:34 off assists from Blake Kohnen (14) and Drew Sparacino (16).  Eric Denny got the Jr. Blues on the board with a power play goal at 4:19. but Shaun Paulson answered with what proved to be the game winning goal at 2:51 off assists from Kohnen (15) and Brody Josselyn (8).  Josselyn got the scoring started in the second period at 15:59 with his 8th goal of the season off assists from O’Connor (15) and Burny (4).  August Feldker scored for St. Louis at 14:21 to bring the game to 5-2.  Michael Maillette extended the Power at 13:33 off assists from Burny (5) and Elijah Covey (4).  Maillette then scored his fifth goal on the weekend at 11:29 off assists from Josselyn (9) and Kohnen(16) for a 7-2 lead after two periods of play.  St, Louis’ Jack Reuss scored their third goal at 10:29 of the third period to cut the lead to 7-3.  Armani Fisher (5) scored the Power’s final goal in exciting fashion, with a “Michigan” at 10:02 for the eventual 8-3 final. Fisher was assisted by Malloy Lomheim (2) and Wyatt Garvey (5).  Peter Burke earned the win and combined with Ben Glaesman for 22 saves on 25 Jr. Blues shots on goal. The Power had 35 shots on goal.

The Power faces Central Division rival Rochester Grizzlies on Friday, November 28 and Saturday, November 29.  Friday is Stop Hunger Night benefitting the West Bend Full Shelf Food Pantry sponsored by Westbury Bank.  Fans who bring in 3 or more non-perishable food items will receive $5 admission.  Saturday is Skate with the Power Night and Youth Hockey Night sponsored by Culligan Water of West Bend.  All youth hockey players in jersey get in free!
