Weekend Recap – Power sweeps Peoria in dominating fashion

The West Bend Power got back on track in a big way over the weekend, sweeping the visiting Peoria Mustangs with an 8-1-win Friday and a 7-0 victory on Saturday.

Friday it was Tommy Kundinger who got the scoring started at 9:18 of the first period off assists from Drew Garipay (1) and Oliver Schroeder (2). The Mustangs answered at 4:57 when Colton Cox scored his 4th goal of the season. Mike Sobaski put the home team ahead at 4:02 of the first period and the Power never looked back.  Sobaski was assisted by Jace Fitzgerald (7) and Sam Harper (1) for the 2-1 lead after one period.  The Power had a 5 goal second period.  Brayden Graning scored less than a minute into the period, assisted by Hunter O’Neal (1) and Jackson Hoem (5) and again at 18:54 off assists from Jackson Hoem (6) and Mike Sobaski (4). Odin Klebba scored his first goal of the season at 18:10 off assists from Blake Mitchell (2) and Monte Goold (4).  Mike Sobaski added on with his third goal of the season at 8:27 off assists from Brayden Graning (1) and Oliver Schroeder (3) and Jackson Hoem finish the second period surge at 7:58 with his 5th goal of the season off assists from Drew Sparacino (1) and Monte Goold (5).  The Power added one more goal in the third period at when Sam Harper scored his first goal of the season at 1:17. He was assisted by Jace Fitzgerald (8) and Grant Schaible (2) for the 8-1 final.  The Power had 41 shots on goal.  Power goaltenders Ben Glaseman and Mick Marlow combined to stop 19 of 20 Mustang shots on goal.

The Palermo’s Screamin’ Sicilian three stars of the game were: third star Jackson Hoem, second star Brayden Graning, and first star Mike Sobaski.  The Versi-foam Hard Hat hardest worker of the game was Sam Harper.

Saturday the fans at Kettle Moraine Ice Center were treated to another high scoring night from the home team in the 7-0 victory.  Power goaltender Sam Siepert got his first NA3HL start and came away with the shutout win, stopping 16 Mustang shots on goal.  Only one goal was scored in the first period, Jake Sherry’s first goal of the season at 1:43 off first assists from Owen Amon and Quinn O’Connor.  The home team scored three times in the second period.  Sam Harper scored his second of the weekend at 13:58 off assists from Grant Schaible (3) and Drew Snyder (1).  Jackson Hoem scored at 12:31 off assists from Brody Josselyn (1) and Drew Sparcino (2) and Jake Sherry scored his second of the night at 8:35 off assists from Quinn O’Connor (2) and Brody Josselyn (2) for the 4-0 lead after two periods of play.  The Power added three more in the third, Lucca Weinkauf light the lamp twice, at 12:19 off assists from Brayden Graning (2) and Oliver Schroeder (4) and at 8:42 again off assists from Graning (3) and Schroeder (5).  Jackson Hoem scored the 7th goal, his 7th of the season at 3:43 with the third assists of the period again from Graning (4) and Schroeder (6).  The Power had 43 shots on goal.

The Culligan Water of West Bend Player of the weekend goes to Brayden Graning with 2 goals and 4 assists on the weekend.  Graning dominated in special teams, as 3 were power play assists and one was a shorthanded assist.

The Power travels to Rochester, MN to face the Grizzlies Friday, October 18 at 7:05 at Rochester Recreation Center.  The game will be broadcast on NA TV.

LOOK AHEAD:

The Power returns home to Kettle Moraine Ice Center Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26 to take on the Wausau Cyclones.  Both games are at 7:30pm.  Friday is Girls Hockey Night where all girl skaters receive free admission.  Catch the WCYHA Ice Lynx in action between intermissions.  Saturday is a Halloween Costume Contest and Trick-or-treating at the rink!  Wear your best costume to get in free and a chance to win a prize ~ adult and children divisions! Pre-game food will be available from the Great Outdoors Supper Club.  Friday is Fish Fry and Saturday is Poutine Night.
