The Power traveled to St. Louis for their first extended road trip of the season and came away with a sweep, 4 points and their winning streak extended to 7 games. The Power coaches challenged the team to be prepared to put in their best effort in order to pick up wins over a young and aggressive Jr, Blues team, and they did just that. In Saturday’s afternoon match up, the Power won 6-2 and Sunday morning’s tilt, they defeated the Jr. Blues 5-2.
Walker Berner got his first start in the Power net Saturday. It was the Jr. Blues that got on the scoreboard first, striking early at 18:08 in the period to take a `1-0 lead. The Power’s Teagan Scheurer answered less than two minutes later, scoring off assists from Cole Fenske and Max Mudge. Jace Fitzgerald put the Power on top to stay at 5:53 off a Tommy Kundinger assist, giving the Power a 2-1 lead after one period of play. The second period was all Power, with the team netting 4 goals. Bryce Garber got things started at 18:23 off an assist from Teagan Scheurer. Monte Goold added two goals in the period, the first off a Jace Fitzgerald assist at 10:06 and the second off a Bryce Garber assist at 5:18. Will Leshnock netted his first goal of the season at 3:30 off assists from Nate Cohen and Carter Daul to give the Power a 6-1 lead after two periods. St. Louis was able to add a goal in the third period, but the Power came away with the 6-2 victory. Berner saved 19/21 Jr. Blues shots.
Saturday, the Power jumped out to an early lead in the first minute of play when Connor O’Neal took a feed from Odin Klebba for a 1-0 lead. That was the only scoring in the first period. The second period was full of scoring for the second time in two days. Jace Fitzgerald scored at the 17:17 mark off assists from Andrew Butler and Max Mudge. Bryce Garber tallied the Power’s third goal at 12:17 off an assist from Brady Moore. St. Louis kept things interesting, scoring twice in the period at 10:07 and 6:31, but Andgrew Butler answered with the Power’s fourth goal at 4:50 to give the Power some breathing room to end the period. He as assisted by Bryce Garber and Max Mudge. The Power’s 5th goal, the only scoring of the third period came from Cole Fenske off assists from Zach Wolverton and Jace Fitzgerald at 6:02. Despite a flurry of penalty minutes and power plays on both sides, the game finished at 6-2 in favor of the Power. Gavin Wohlmacher stopped 29/31 Jr. Blues shots on goal.
The Power moves to 13-2-0-1 with 27 points in first place in the Central Division. The Jr. Blues fell to 2-13-0-2.
The Kundinger Fluid Power Player of the weekend goes to Monte Goold for two goals in Saturday’s victory. Also receiving recognition are Bryce Garber and Jace Fitzgerald, each with 4 points on the weekend.
The Power will be on the road again this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, November 18-19 to face the Peoria Mustangs. Game times are 6:30pm Saturday and 1:15pm Sunday at the Owens Center in Peoria. Both games will be broadcast on NAHL TV.
The Power returns home Thanksgiving weekend when the Peoria Mustangs return to Kettle Moraine Ice Center Friday, Nov. 24, and Saturday Nov. 25 for 80’s weekend. Friday is Stop Hunger Night. Fans will receive $5 admission with 2 or more non-perishable food items to benefit the West Bend Full Shelf Food Pantry. Saturday is TDS Skate with the Power Night sponsored by TDS Telecom and The Outbreak. The first 250 fans will receive a free TDS Fiberoptic light up wand.
