The Milwaukee Power have completed a trade with the Willmar WarHawks. The Power received forward Jacob May, a 1998 birth year in his last season of Junior eligibility. The WarHawks received forward John Kosa, a 2019 1st round draft pick, a 2019 tender, and cash considerations.May cut his teeth in Junior Hockey playing for the Pikes Peak Miners of the RMJHL (Rocky Mountain Junior Hockey League) last season. The Star, Idaho, native led the league in scoring with 34 goals and 44 assists in 42 games while taking the Miners to the league's Championship Game. May has appeared in 33 games this season, 2 for the Coulee Region Chill before being traded to Willmar. He has scored 14 goals and 16 assists in his 31 games for the WarHawks and looks to keep up his point a game average now that he is joining a playoff contender. "I'm excited to join a new team and have the chance to make a deep run into the playoffs, with this being my last year this is how I wanted to finish the season before going on to college," said May. "I'm not completely decided yet but I'd like to go into sports management or criminal justice as my major and continue playing in college." “Jacob is a player I identified early in the season as a top and NA3 player,” said Chase Ernst, President of Hockey Operations. “He has a winning pedigree coming from the Rocky Mountain Junior League, leading it in scoring as well as his team to the championship game. That exactly the type of player I want to bring in for our stretch run. It was a conscious choice to give up what we did in order to acquire a player of Jacob’s caliber, offensive skill set, and ultimate determination to end his junior career competing for a Fraser cup.” The WarHawks are almost mathematically eliminated from the playoff race in a tough West Division so they have taken the opportunity to start building for next season. Kosa is a 2000 birth year and will have plenty of time to continue his development. The draft pick and tender also allow the WarHawks the chance to bring in some new talent next season. “John Kosa is an excellent young man who did everything we asked of him. He has a tremendously bright future and we wish him the best of luck and thank him for his efforts here in Milwaukee,” said Chase Ernst. With the trade deadline approaching fast it's unknown what other moves are coming but one thing is clear, the Power are doing everything they can to make a deep playoff push this season as this is the 2nd trade in the new year that has brought a 1998 birth year on for one last shot at the post season.
