The Milwaukee Power have completed a trade deal with the Alexandria Blizzard to bring one of Milwaukee's sons back home.
The Blizzard received two 2019 tenders and two 2019 draft choices. In return the Power received top tier defenseman Jake Peterson.
"Very rarely does a player with JP's ability, character, leadership, and attitude become available in late November, but when he was I did what was necessary for this organization to add a crucial piece to our roster both on and off the ice. I'm very excited for JP to be able to finish his Junior career in his hometown and we both share high expectations of what he is going to bring to our Power lineup every night in our pursuit of bringing the Fraser Cup to Milwaukee in our inaugural season," said Chase Ernst, President of Hockey Operations.
Peterson started his Junior Hockey career alongside Milwaukee's Captain, Jake Berry, with the Texas Jr. Brahmas of the NA3HL back in the 2016-17 season. He put up impressive numbers scoring 15 goals and 31 assists for 46 total points to put him ranked 5th in scoring for defensemen that season and played all 47 games. The Brahmas won the South Division regular season title but were unable to advance to the Silver Cup round robin.
Peterson split his 2017-18 season between the NAHL, the NA3HL, and the USPHL appearing in 33 total games across the three leagues and accumulating 6 goals and 19 assists for 25 points.
For the 2018-19 season Peterson has been a part of the Chippewa Steel, a new NAHL franchise. After playing in 13 games for the Steel, Peterson was released and was looking for a new team to suit up for. The Blizzard had his NA3HL rights but Peterson was looking for other options until the Power stepped in to bring him home.
This weekend Peterson will don his old number 12, for the first time in black and red, as the Power head down to St. Louis for a two game series against the second place Jr. Blues as Milwaukee looks add to their cushion in the division standings.
"JP is a great addition to the our backend and not only helps to further solidify our defensive zone but can also be a threat in the offensive zone," said Fred Berry, Head Coach.
