The Milwaukee Power was on a 10-game winning streak heading into round one of the Fraser Cup playoffs this weekend but couldn’t keep it going and fell to the Oregon Tradesmen in two one-goal games in the best of 3 series.
Thursday Oregon came away with a 2-1 win at Kettle Moraine Ice Center. Oregon started the scoring at the 6:02 mark of the first. Patrick Toomey answered at the 11:09 mark off assists from Max Erstad and Blake Keller bringing it to a 1-1 tie and the end of the first. The only goal of the second came from Cater Watters, which proved to be the final goal of the game and the eventual game winner. There were many close calls, as the Power hit the crossbar and posts multiple times but could not find the back of the net. Shots were even at 26 each. Adam Prokop had 24 saves in the Power net.
It took double overtime to decide Friday’s game, but after 4 1/2 periods of hockey, the Tradesmen got the 3-2 win and are moving on. Oregon started the scoring at the 15:28 mark of the first for the only goal in the period. A two-goal second period put the Power on top 2-1 at the end of two. Connor O’Neal scored the first goal of the game for the Power off assist from Jack Wojnowski and Bryce Garber. Blake Keller gave the Power the lead at the 10:13 mark off an assist from Max Mudge. Oregon tied it up at the 17:40 mark of the third period forcing overtime. There was no scoring in the first overtime period and at the 8:42 mark of the second overtime, the Tradesmen got the goal and the win. Adam Prokop stopped 49 of 52 shots in the Power net.
The Power finished the regular season at 31-13-2-1, the best record in Milwaukee Power franchise history. The Milwaukee Power organization would like to thank our billets, fans, sponsors and partners for a tremendous season.
