The Power traveled to St. Louis for the second road series of the year, picking up 3 points at Afton Ice Arena with an overtime 6-5 loss Saturday and a 6-4 win on Sunday.
Connor Carroll got the start in the Power net for game one. The Jr. Blues jumped on top early in the game, scoring twice in the first three minutes. Bryce Garber helped kick start the Power offense by scoring twice, first at the 14:88 mark, assisted by Tyler Kowalchuck and Max Mudge, then again at the 16:44 mark assisted by Zach Wolverton. The Blues answered one more time in the period to take the lead into the first intermission, 3-2.
After no scoring the second period, the Jr. Blues started the third period scoring at the 1:16 mark, and then again at 12:47, jumping up to a 5-2 lead. The Power took advantage of a St. Louis penalty as Owen Drake tallied a power play goal, assisted by Max Erstad and Mike Dalaly. Just 25 seconds later, Max Erstad brought the Power within one, scoring with assists from Rocco Cicirello and Colin March. The momentum continued as the Power tied it up at the 17:58 mark on another Erstad goal, this time assisted by Bryce Garber and Colin March.
The tie held until the 18:18 mark of overtime when Ryan Callahan was able to take the puck away in the St. Louis zone for the overtime winner, 6-5. The Jr. Blues outshot the Power in game one 41-33.
Sunday morning started in the same fashion, with the Jr. Blues going up early by 2 against Power goaltender Adam Prokop. They led until Rocco Cicirello scored his first goal of the season at the 12:20 mark, assisted by Jack Wojnowski and Connor O’Neal. The second period was all Power, scoring three unanswered goals: Zach Wolverton scored from Patrick Toomey and Max Erstad, Tyler Kowalchuck from DJ Gooley and Joey Demiglio and Connor O’Neal from Riley Planey and Erstad. The Power added its fifth goal of the day just 51 seconds into the third period as Max Erstad added to his offensive surge for the weekend scoring with assists from Max Mudge and Colin March.
The Blues battled back, answering two more times, but Riley Planey secured the win by adding a short-handed insurance goal at the 17:17 mark. The Power outshot the Blues in game two 37-28.
Next up: The Power kicks off the first home series at its new home, the Kettle Moraine Ice Center in West Bend on Friday, September 23 and Saturday, September 24 against the Peoria Mustangs.
