The Milwaukee Power had a home and home series with the Rochester Grizzlies this past weekend. Rochester would stay unbeaten and alone atop the Central Division as they took both contests.
Newly signed goaltender Scott Bird would start both games for Milwaukee stopping 41 of 44 shots on Friday and 38 of 43 shots on Saturday. Bird stopped over 90% of the shots he faced on the weekend and made some highlight reel saves but the Power offense was slow to start in both games as the Grizzlies led after the 1st both nights.
On Friday night the Power’s lone goal came from Tyler Nelson, with assists by Caleb Dusseau and Devin Huie, with less than two minutes remaining in the game. On Saturday Garrett Alton would score early in the 3rd period with help from Nelson and Teddy Marion to cut the deficit to two but the Grizzlies would extend their lead to four with two more goals.
Milwaukee’s special teams were not as effective as the prior weekend as they gave up three power play goals and were unable to score any of their own even with Rochester taking more penalties on the weekend. Rochester also out shot Milwaukee by 36 shots for both games combined.
The Power will look to turn things around as the Peoria Mustangs come to town this weekend for a two game series. The Mustangs sit at 5th in the division with a record of (1-1-1-1) and their lone win coming against the Power in their season opener. Milwaukee sits in 3rd place at (3-5) and will be looking to get back to .500 along with staying in the top half of the division standings.
