The Milwaukee Power are in Peoria, IL for a two game series this weekend against the Mustangs. Both teams were looking to get their first win of the season in order to keep pace with the Oregon Tradesmen and the Rochester Grizzlies in the Central division.
It would be a long night in net for first year goaltender Jackson Broussard as he would give up 6 goals on 44 shots in his 2nd start. Meanwhile, his offense only recorded 18 shots and 1 goal as they lost the battle for time of possession.
The Power only trailed by 1 after the 1st period after a power play goal by Quinton Murphy. The Peoria offense would pick up the pace in the 2nd scoring 3 goals in the for 10 and a half minutes. A pair of Peoria penalties would slow down the Mustangs offense for the remainder of the 2nd.
Peoria came out swinging in the 3rd as they added another score just 10 seconds into the period and another just shy of three and a half minutes later. Milwaukee would finally get on the board just past the five minute mark as Devin Huie sprung a two on none resulting in rookie Trey Bess receiving a pass from veteran Brady Rossbach to score shorthanded for his first NA3HL goal. Both offenses would remain silent for the remainder of the 3rd with a few chances here and there for either side.
The Power will look to limit shots in game two as Broussard faced 23 in the 1st period alone. Penalties were almost even as Milwaukee took five while Peoria took four. The Mustangs were able to control time of possession and dictate the pace most of the game, something the Power will have to disrupt in order to keep it a closer contest. Milwaukee also needs more out of their top 6 forwards to kickstart their offense that is currently averaging two goals a game and did not register a point last night.
The Power are back at it tonight in Peoria with a 6:45PM puck drop as they look to get their first points of the season.
