The Power were back at it last night in Peoria looking to bounce back from their 6-1 loss the night before.
Milwaukee would not get the start they wanted as the Mustangs would get on the board first midway through the 1st on a goal from Connor Bennett. The Power would respond late in the period thanks to some net front presence from Garrett Alton to bang home a rebound off a shot from Tyler Nelson with Mason Ausmus logging the secondary assist.
The Power would take their first lead of the weekend in the 2nd after Trey Bess would score shorthanded for the 2nd time on the weekend at the 4:31 mark. The Mustangs would tie the game late in the period with the goal coming from George Giese.
The 3rd was all special teams as Bess scored his 2nd shorthanded goal of the night and 3rd of the weekend 1:11 into the period. The Mustangs would get the goal on the same power play chance just 23 seconds later from Jaycob Bland. Both offenses were held silent for the remainder of the 3rd and through the 5-minute overtime period.
Peoria would shoot first sending Ethan Chesney to start the shootout. He would be denied by Jackson Broussard. Milwaukee’s first shooter was Mason Ausmus and he would score 5-hole on Joe Armboffi. Peoria’s 2nd shooter was George Giese and he would successfully out wait Broussard to bring the score back to even. Tyler Nelson was the 2nd shooter for Milwaukee and he would string together multiple moves to put the Power up 2 to 1. Down to their last out Peoria would send Reid Lune needing a goal to stay alive but he would be denied by Broussard to give Milwaukee their first win of the season.
After two tough starts for Broussard he had his best game to earn his first win the NA3HL facing over 35 shots on the night. This was a significant win for the Power not only because it puts them one game back from .500 but it was also their first win in Peoria in team history.
Up next for the Power is a two game series in St. Louis against the Jr. Blues on October 17th and 18th. The Blues are off to a slow start at (0-4) but all four games have come against the Rochester Grizzlies who are the top team in the Central division. The Power will need to be ready to go full speed next weekend as the Blues always put together a roster with a lot of speed and skill.
